How Much Data Does Spotify Use 2023 Guide

Have you wondered how much data does Spotify uses? I mean so many people are using the app. It is a pretty popular app so one must know how much data does the app sucks out of us. If you are wondering the same, then you have come to the right place. One day I was sleeping, and when I woke up, I was consumed by this idea, and since then it hasn’t left my mind. So, I decided to do what I always do, research and write about it. So here we are.

Well, before we get to that, let us discuss what Spotify is?

What is Spotify?

The basic definition would be that it is a digital streaming service that gives you (the user) access to millions of songs, podcasts, and videos from artists, music composers from all around the world. You just have to sign up, and you will be eligible for this free-of-charge service. If you wish then you can sign up either through Facebook or through your email id. And, if you wish you can even try their premium services through their Spotify Premium. Trust me; they will not disappoint you.

If you want to know the difference between the premium version and the free version, then it would be a pretty good idea to tell you that in the premium version you don’t find ads which is honestly a great relief. The free service can be accessed through PC, laptop, and mobile phones but for the full service, you will need a Spotify Premium Subscription. Now that we are done with the introduction let us get to the question.

How much data does Spotify use?

Well, while doing my research I found the following answers. It turns out that data usage from Spotify depends on the quality you are currently streaming from. So, really, in the end, the data consumed comes down to your choices.

  • If you are using normal quality which will be at 96 kilobits. With this option, you will be using 40 megabytes per hour.
  • If you think you want high quality, then it will be at 160 kilobits. You will be consuming 70 megabytes per hour.
  • If you are a person who thinks he wants to use extreme quality, then it will be at 302 kilobits, and you will be using 150 megabytes per hour. I think this is a fair deal.

And, if you have no idea which one you want to use, then you can always set it on automatic quality, where the streaming quality would be based on your present connection.

But, let me tell you one more thing, reader. These rate cards are not set in stone. Spotify is very intelligent; it remembers the songs that you have played recently, it caches them. So, the next time you are listening to the same song again, it will use less data.

So, this was about the data used by Spotify. But you know there is more to the app than rate cards. It has some really good features that would impress you. Do you want to know what those are? Well, then keep reading.
